SALARY RANGE

  • Advanced Water Treatment Operator II: $6,240 – $7,584 monthly
  • Advanced Water Treatment Operator III: $6,961 – $8,462 monthly

JOB DESCRIPTION

Under general supervision, employees will have knowledge and experience in conventional and/or advanced water treatment techniques such as Reverse Osmosis, Ion Exchange, and Lime Softening. Employees perform a variety of skilled technical duties and labor in the operation and maintenance of water treatment facilities. Candidates should also have a good understanding of Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA), wells, booster stations, pressure-reducing stations, and system blending. Additional duties may include:

  • Complete operational and safety procedures and chemical handling practices in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Perform assigned treatment plant rounds, inspecting, monitoring, and documenting plant operations by reading plant equipment gauges, dials, graphs, and other instrumentation.
  • Operate and adjust treatment plant pumps, motors, feeders, and other equipment to maintain appropriate plant operations.
  • Maintain, compile, and update plant operations logs and reports; perform and record mathematical calculations related to plant operational activities.
  • Mix and add treatment chemicals; check and have work verified that adequate chemical application according to regulations and guidelines.
  • Collect water samples and perform a variety of routine water quality laboratory tests, work closely with the laboratory on testing processes.
  • Perform general plant facility maintenance, including membrane replacement and reservoir cleaning; perform filter maintenance, media replacement, and chemical treatment or CIPs and perform routine facility repairs as required.
  • Follow District policies & procedures, as well as regulations pertinent to the end uses of treated water.
  • Perform related duties and responsibilities as assigned.

EDUCATION & CERTIFICATIONS

The right person for this role will possess the following credentials:

Advanced Water Treatment Operator II

  • High School graduation or Equivalent.
  • Two 3-unit (or 36-hour) Courses of Specialized Training that include at least one course in drinking water treatment and a second course in either drinking water treatment, distribution, or wastewater treatment.
  • One (1) year of operator experience working as a certified Treatment-2 operator at a treatment facility, within a production system or as a distribution operator.
  • Possession of a Class-C CA Driver’s License, CPR/AED+, Treatment Grade 2 certification, and Distribution Grade 2 certification is required. Advanced Water Treatment Grade 3 is desirable.

Advanced Water Treatment Operator III

  • High School graduation or Equivalent
  • Three 3-unit (or 36-hour) Courses of Specialized Training that include at least two courses in drinking water treatment and one additional course in either drinking water treatment, distribution, or wastewater treatment. 
  • Two (2) years of operator experience working as a shift or chief operator while as a certified T3 operator at a T3 facility or higher.
  • One (1) year of operator experience may be substituted in accordance with the SWRCB. 
  • Experience with one or more AWT processes is highly desired.
  • Possession of a Class-C CA Driver’s License, CPR/AED+, Treatment Grade 3 certification, and Distribution Grade 3 certification. Advanced Water Treatment Grade 3 is desirable.
