Senior Wastewater Treatment Operator (Grade Level III-V)

Salary: OIT $22.07 - $26.89/hour
Grade I $25.55 - $31.13/hour
Grade II $26.83 - $32.69/hour
Grade III $29.58 - $36.04/hour
Grade IV - V $31.06 - $37.84/hour
OR
Senior Grade III - V $34.24 - $41.72/hour, DOQ

Includes a generous benefit package including: medical, dental and vision insurance; 2.5% @ 55 PERS retirement and a 4/10 work schedule

The Position:
This position serves the front line operation of the various wastewater treatment facilities. Dependent upon possession and grade of wastewater certification, employees will receive various levels of on-the-job training and guidance from operations staff as required to safely and efficiently meet day-to-day compliance. Staff in this position follow prescribed and standardized procedures, under various levels of supervision of a higher-level Operator on duty.

4/10 work schedule; w/ability to work varying shifts, nights, weekends, holidays, overtime, on-call duty and respond to call backs and maybe required to work alone on weekends and holidays.

The Department is seeking an energetic and innovative individual that understands the bigger picture as well as anticipates and prepares innovative solutions and delivers results. The successful candidate will be a self-starting, results-oriented individual with strong communication, organizational and interpersonal skills. Attention to detail as well as strong technical and analytical skills, including use of spreadsheets, databases, and other automated statistical software and proficiency in Windows 2007 (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook) is critical.

The Inland Empire Utilities Agency (IEUA) operates and maintains four water recycling facilities and two biosolids treatment facilities. Work locations may be at the Chino, Chino Hills, Ontario, and Rancho Cucamonga plants.

Inland Empire Utilities Agency, (IEUA) is a wholesaler of drinking water and operator of state-of-the-art wastewater treatment/water recycling facilities serving seven member agencies with a population of approximately 850,000 in the west end of San Bernardino county, California. Job Requirements:
Experience and Education

  • Minimum one year of experience in the operation and maintenance of a wastewater treatment facility for Level I-V; OIT, highly desirable.
  • Proficiency in Windows 2007 (e.g., Word, Excel, Outlook) and ERP system is highly desirable.
  • Graduation from high school or G.E.D. equivalent.
  • Some college-level course work in chemistry, biology and wastewater and/or water treatment technology highly desirable.

Senior Wastewater Treatment Operator (Grade Level III-V)
  • 16 educational points and course work in engineering, sanitary engineering, environmental engineering, environmental sciences, public administration, or related field of study is highly desirable.
  • Three years of experience in the operation and maintenance of a wastewater treatment facility.

Licenses and Certificates:

  • A valid class “C” California driver’s license.
  • A valid California Wastewater Treatment Operator certificate issued by California’s State Water Resource Control Board (SWRCB) Grade level OIT–Senior Operator V is required; a copy of certificate must be submitted with application.
    Note: If applicant does not have a Grade III certificate at the time of initial employment, he/she will be required to obtain a Grade III certification within 3 years from the date of hire.
